VIDEO: A Matter of Scale — Angie Payne

Our print magazine will always be our first priority, but the vision has also been more.

Simply, some stories are best expressed through dynamic mediums, and we’ve been thinking about what that might look like for SJ.

When it comes to climbing films today, we all know the tropes: you either get an hour-plus about the process of projecting or uncut send footage. Neither offers nuanced, character-driven storytelling.

We believe there’s room for something different.
Introducing our new short film — A Matter of Scale: Angie Payne

In the lead-up to our first issue, we knew we wanted to include Angie’s macro photography. Her delight in nature's tiniest details are a natural extension of the boulderer’s fixation on the micro.

Angie’s accompanying essay spoke to her growing appreciation of the microscopic and the mundane, and we felt there was an opportunity to help readers get a closer look at her journey, in a short film.

Give it a watch and let us know what you think!
